RESIGNED!

When you are offered a job as Quality Inspection Engineer (QC), what do you expect to do?

a) Product defects inspection
b) Product quality inspection
c) Weekly and monthly report on products quality
d) To carry and arrange the products accordingly
e) All of the above

Well, what's your answer? For me, I've just joined a company which gave me only the "e" option. The company main business is steel fabrication but they also manufacture LPG cylinders for both SHELL and PETRONAS in which is the department which I WAS attached to.

At first when interview, they told me it will just be a little bit dirty and all you need to do is just to inspect those products [LPG Cylinders] for their manufacturing process. However after they got me in, they made my first 3 days "eating" whole stacks of quality manual, quality procedures, and even work procedures for the entire process. That was fine as I will need to know what is going on to help perform my job.

Right after that, my boss send me over to the first inspection station for 2 weeks. Guess what, you will have to inspect the cylinders which were just welded using SAW [submerged arc weld] which is damn hot for any welding defects. After that, record the serial numbers for both defects and non-defects. Finally, you will still have to stack all of them up and send it to the storage area for further processing. As for the welder, all they need to do is just to weld and push it off the station after weld and we have to do the rest of the job. Don't you think this job should be renamed to " Welders' kuli"? They even got huge industrial fan blowing at them when they do the job which we don't. And when troubles come, we got shot instead of them!

After I did some thinking and with my work permit still having no news of it after such a long time has passed, I finally wrote the letter to my boss. Sir, I Resign! Now I understand why this particular position has been vacant for more than 2 years especially with their super lousy pay some more.

Moral of the lesson, never thought that the job will be as nice as the title goes and huge + listed companies doesn't guarantee that they really appreciate their workers and pay them well.
